2 Areas of Digital Transformation Organizations Should Focus in 2022

Digital transformation is a data-driven process of integrating digital technologies into all areas of an organization in order to improve efficiency and effectiveness. In today's business landscape, digital transformation has become essential for survival.

Organizations that don't evolve and embrace new digital technologies will be left behind.

In this blog you will find:

This blog post will focus on digital transformation for your organization in 2022. A report by the Conference Board in which they surveyed 750 CEOs about what they plan to invest in to ensure future growth for their various organizations (see graph below).

More than 50% of the CEOs identified digital transformations as the top area to invest in to ensure business growth over the next 2 - 3 years.

A few questions come to mind regarding this information:

- How do you action this insight for your organization?
- What is digital transformation and how do you invest in digital transformation now?

To help answer these questions, below are 2 areas of digital transformation that organizations should focus on in 2022:

1. Tie Your Organization’s Digital Transformation to a Strategy Roadmap

First and foremost, in a perfect world, digital transformation is really just a digital embodiment of your normal business strategy. You are on your way to digital transformation if your organization has created either of the following

- A technology roadmap aligned to your business strategic roadmap, or
- A strategic roadmap or a basic roadmap in general

This involves looking at areas of opportunity around augmenting what your business does well, supporting things that perhaps are underserving your business (not adding as much value as it could) or looking for other types of services/entities that can be enhanced via technology.

The idea is to properly link digital transformation to your strategic roadmap with digital transformation being the activation arm for the roadmap itself. Once you have mapped this out, review how the created or updated roadmap can be implemented and what resources are needed to achieve this.

2. Analyze the Available Quality Data and Be Data-driven for Your Digital Transformation Journey

So what does it mean to be data-driven as it relates to digital transformation?

In this modern day and age, there exists tons of data to explore/analyze. One of the opportunities and challenges that exist for businesses today is that there is so much data available that it becomes difficult (at times) to know what to do. How can you make this data actionable for your organizational objectives?

When looking at such data, you need to start asking the following questions:

- How can you use data to support the type of investment you are going to make in your organization?
- What can the data tell you about possible outcomes of any current/future business objectives?
- Are there existing deficiencies or areas of opportunities that this data can help uncover?
- What can the data tell you about the possible ROI, key metrics or timeframe for any current/future business goals?
- What type of digital transformation journey are you going to embark on?
- How can you measure progress and the outcome of the digital transformation journey?

Being able to apply the answers to these questions is how you can get data-driven digital transformation for your organization. It's about using the data to both inform your digital transformation journey and also using the data to measure, adjust and evaluate the performance of your actual journey itself.

How to Start Your Organizational Digital Transformation ?

It’s difficult to build or map out something your organization has never seen. Some organizations want to achieve so many things that their digital transformation journey might take lightyears to complete.

Here at ProServeIT, we believe that this process can be simplified and that the structure of a house is a great example to showcase this. A sturdy house is first built in the mind then in reality. As shown in the image below, your business can be digitally transformed from the foundation up (starting with Cybersecurity) with the technology components housed in different rooms (while still helping with the overall structure).

Start with creating a quality blueprint (like that of a house).

To build for success, your organization needs to map out its vision for its Modern IT “house” into an easy-to-follow blueprint. At ProServeIT, our blueprint is our IT Roadmap, where we show organizations how to evaluate their business goals and objectives and ensure that their technology will support what they are envisioning for themselves.

Conclusion

Digital transformation is a journey, not a destination.

There are two key areas organizations should focus on in order to make the most of their digital transformation efforts. First, tie your organization’s digital transformation to a strategy roadmap that takes all aspects of your business into account. Second, be data-driven and analyze the quality data you have available before making decisions about your digital transformation journey.
